Another coaching position opened up in the WNBA on Friday when the Dallas Wings announced that Latricia Trammell had been fired after two seasons with the team.

Trammell joins Los Angeles' Curt Miller, Atlanta's Tanisha Wright and Chicago's Teresa Weatherspoon as the fourth coach to be fired since the end of the 2024 WNBA regular season. The Dream were the only one of these teams to make the playoffs this year.

Trammell led Dallas to a 22-18 regular-season record in 2023, the franchise's best record since 2008, when it was based in Detroit as the Shock. The Wings reached the WNBA semifinals, where they lost to the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces.

But this year, with star forward Satou Sabally missing 25 of 40 games because of a shoulder injury and with her joining the German national team at the Olympics, Dallas was 9-31.

Amber Cox left the position of chief operating officer of the Wings after the season and became COO and general manager of the Indiana Fever. With Cox gone, Wings president and CEO Greg Bibb said he will hire a general manager and a new coach.

“As part of our year-end review process and in conjunction with our long-term strategic planning for the organization,” Bibb said in a statement, “I have decided to expand and strengthen our basketball operations by hiring a general manager.” The search for that person has already started and I hope to have more news about this setting soon. The Wings will enter the 2025 WNBA Draft lottery, which will air on ESPN on November 17th, and must also prepare for the Golden State Valkyries' expansion draft on December 6th, for which all current teams can protect six players . The Wings franchise started in Detroit in 1998 and won three WNBA championships there before moving to Tulsa in 2010. After six seasons in Oklahoma, the team moved to Dallas in 2016 and became the Wings.

They will now hire a fifth coach since moving to Dallas. The Wings also briefly had an interim coach at the end of the 2018 season.

The Wings play at Texas-Arlington's arena, the College Park Center, but plan to move to downtown Dallas in the coming years.
