Who won the NYC Marathon? Winners, times and results 2024

NEW YORK — The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon today takes more than 50,000 runners from all over the world on a tour through the five districts.

Check this page for updates on the winners as runners finish the 26.2 mile course and cross the finish line in Central Park.

Who won the 2024 NYC Marathon?

Sheila Chepkirui from Kenya won the 2024 women's raceCompleted in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 35 seconds. It was her first time running the New York City Marathon.

Chepkirui finished almost 15 seconds ahead of defending champion Hellen Obiri of Kenya.

Abdi Nageeye from the Netherlands won the men's race in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 39 seconds. He crossed the finish line just six seconds ahead of 2022 champion Evans Chebet.

The winners take home $100,000 in prize moneyaccording to New York Road Runners. The first place finishers in the wheelchair class will each receive $35,000 and a $50,000 bonus for breaking the course record.

The American Daniel Romanchuck won the men's wheelchair championshipand thus ended Marcel Hug's three-year winning streak. Romanchuck, who also won the 2018 and 2019 races, finished in 1 hour, 36 minutes and 31 seconds.

The American Susannah Scaroni won the women's wheelchair race for the second time after finishing 3rd last year. Scaroni finished with a time of 1:48:05, more than 10 minutes ahead of third-place finisher Tatyana McFadden of the United States.

This was the first time that Americans won both wheelchair races.

How do the winning times for 2024 compare to previous races?

Last year Tamirat Tola from Ethiopia broke the all-time record in the men's race with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 58 seconds. Albert Korir of Kenya came in second, crossing the finish line in 2:06:57. Shura Kitata of Ethiopia took 3rd place with a time of 2:07:11.

Obiri won the 2023 women's race, achieving a time of 2:27:23. Letesenbet Gidey from Ethiopia came second with a time of 2:27:29. Sharon Lokedi of Kenya took third place with a time of 2:27:33.

Hug and Catherine Debrunner won the men's and women's wheelchair races in 2023. Hug finished in 1 hour, 25 minutes and 29 seconds. Debrunner's time was 1:39:32.
