Thursday Night Football Preview

This divisional matchup has been one-sided lately, as the 49ers have won five straight meetings with the Seahawks. Both teams rank in the top ten in total offense (SF 2nd, 407.4 YDS/G) and (SEA 7th, 376.2 YDS/G).

Seattle is coming off a disappointing 29-20 loss to the New York Giants. They have been strong from the start, winning three games in a row at the start of the season, but have now lost two weeks in a row. However, Seattle was able to tie the game against the G-Men with 55 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Jason Myers set up for a 50-yard field goal, which was subsequently blocked and returned for a touchdown to seal the win for Big Blue.

Seattle's running game, led by Kenneth Walker III, will look to get back on track. The Seahawks' running backs only totaled 30 rushing yards on 7 attempts in the loss to the Giants.

The Seahawks' defense also struggled in the loss, allowing 420 total yards to a Giants team that was without rookie sensation Malik Nabers and running back Devin Singletary.

On the other side will be a 49ers team that will be angry after its second loss in three weeks to a division opponent. San Francisco was upset by the Rams in Week 3 and the Cardinals in Week 5. In both cases, the 49ers blew double-digit leads in the second half. Last season the Niners only lost two division games.

The 49ers offense struggled with injuries in the first month of the season. George Kittle and Deebo Samuel are dealing with injuries but should be in the starting lineup Thursday night. Running back Jordan Mason has been a revelation in McCaffrey's absence.

Similar to Seattle, the 49ers' defense struggled to slow down their opponents in Week 5. She allowed the Cardinals 169 yards rushing.

Despite losing two games in a row, the Seahawks are off to a strong start and can soon establish themselves as the team to beat in the NFC West. One matchup to watch will be the 49ers on offense in the red zone. They have struggled to finish drives and rank 29th in the NFL in converting red zone chances into touchdowns. Seattle ranks 15th in red zone defense.
