Where is Simran Bhogal now? True story behind the Sweet Bobby podcast and Netflix series

When the podcast was first released, Kirat didn't expect how many listeners it would attract and was equally shocked when a number of production companies contacted her about making a documentary, including Netflix.

“It’s just about bringing the story to a wider audience,” Kirat told RadioTimes.com exclusively. “A lot of people don't listen to podcasts, and if that helps people raise their voices (and speak out), fight a little harder for themselves when it comes to not being believed, then that's what counts.”

But is the whole true story of Sweet Bobby and who is behind the charade? Read on to find out everything you need to know.

When Kirat received a friend request from someone named Bobby Jandu, a man with whom she had common friends, she accepted it without believing that it would change her life forever.

At first Kirat and Bobby exchanged friendly messages, and after he confided in her about the breakdown of his marriage, they became friends and messaged each other more regularly.

While their friendship developed over several years, the two had still never met and only messaged online.

But things changed when Kirat learned that Bobby had been shot in Kenya and had been placed under witness protection.

While communications were lost, Bobby began messaging Kirat again from a separate account that was supposedly released through the Witness Protection Program.

Now that he lives in New York, there was one excuse after another as to why Kirat couldn't see Bobby. Whether he had a stroke or a heart attack, there was always something that prevented them from seeing each other.

These health fears would always be confirmed by someone close to Bobby, who had seen him and sent a message to Kirat so she could believe that Bobby was real and out there.

Over the years, Kirat said, Bobby took control, so much so that she was fired from work because of the stress it caused.

After constant back and forth, things finally came to a head when Bobby returned to London and Kirat planned to visit him at a hotel where he was staying but was told that there was no Bobby Jandu staying there.

Kirat became suspicious and hired a private detective to find out Bobby's true address and they returned with an address in Brighton.

When she drove to Brighton, Kirat thought she was going to confront Bobby, and she did – he just had no idea who Kirat was.

When Kirat met Bobby, it was not the person she had messaged and later it turned out that her cousin Simran Bhogal was behind everything.

After confronting Bobby, Kirat said Simran called her and told her to go home.

Kirat added that Simran came to her house the next day and revealed that she had been Bobby all along.

In 2020, Kirat filed a civil lawsuit against Simran and achieved a significant settlement in her harassment, misuse of private information, and privacy violation case.

In an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.comKirat explained that she still has “absolutely no idea” why Simran decided to capture her.

“There is nothing she could say to justify what she did… She had ample opportunity to stop,” she said.

“She could see the damage she was doing. She could see the heartache she was causing. She decided against it.”
