When will polls open for the 2024 elections in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut?

NEW YORK — Voters in the Tri-State Area can go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for the 2024 general election.

Polls will be open for 15 hours on Election Day in New York and 14 hours in New Jersey and Connecticut. All three states offered early in-person voting in the days before.

Below you can find out when polls will open and close on Election Day in each state. Remember, all you have to do is line up to cast your vote before the election begins. This is not a deadline for the actual voting.

Do I need ID to vote in New York or New Jersey?

In New York, ID is not required at polling places, except for some first-time voters.

In New Jersey, most people are also not required to show ID. Voters who do not present valid identification when registering will be required to show identification at their polling place.

Do I need ID to vote in Connecticut?

Unlike the Empire and Garden states, Connecticut requires identification when voting, but photo ID is not required. Social Security cards or other printed identification with name and address, voter name and signature, or name and photo (such as a driver's license) are accepted.

Connecticut voters who do not provide acceptable identification may sign an affidavit. An election official will then determine your eligibility to vote. A first-time voter who does not present a recognized ID may cast a provisional vote.
