When do the polling stations open on election day? – NBCChicago

Voters will go to the polls on Election Day this week to cast their ballots in a variety of races, including the presidential election and other high-profile contests.

Voters in Illinois will elect judges and vote on a range of advisory issues on their ballots, while voters in Indiana will elect a new governor and senator, among other things.

Here is an overview of when polling stations will open in both states.

Illinois

Under Illinois state law, polls open at 6:00 a.m. CST on Election Day and remain open until 7:00 p.m

Voters in line at 7 p.m. are allowed to cast their ballots under Illinois law.

Residents who want to register to vote can do so on Election Day, but must go to a polling place that offers voter registration within a deadline. A tool to find information about these polling locations can be found on the Illinois Board of Elections website.

Indiana

In the state of Indiana, polling stations open at 6 a.m. local time on Tuesday and close at 6 p.m. local time in the evening.

Most of Indiana is on Eastern Time, but Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper counties are all on Central Time, meaning their polls will be open later.
