What trick-or-treaters can expect in the greater Lansing area

LANSING – It could be wet and windy for Halloween trick-or-treaters this year.

“Right now it's looking like a somewhat wet Halloween,” said Scott Thomas, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, who covers the Lansing area. He's been predicting a wet Halloween for about a week.

Thomas said Wednesday, on the eve of the spookiest holiday of the year, that the Lansing area was expected to see rain Thursday afternoon and that the majority of the rain was expected to fall around 5 p.m., but there would likely be lingering showers into the early hours of the evening.

“It gets a little wet around the trick-or-treaters,” Thomas said.

However, some may be more splashes and puddles than rain.

There should be comfortable trick-or-treating temperatures of about 60 degrees by 6 or 7 p.m., Thomas said.

A ray of hope?

Not the sun, it will be cloudy, but there is no chance of a repeat of a snowy Halloween like in 2023, Thomas said.

The final Halloween costume challenge will be the wind.

Thomas said there will be breezes of 20 to 25 mph and gusts up to 30 mph, perfect for showing off billowing costumes and chasing accessories in the wind.
