What is the Penn State-Wisconsin spread?: Newsstand

Penn State news, notes and updates for Oct. 21 include the latest point spread for Saturday's visit Wisconsin. It's time to dive into Monday's top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State Tweets of the Day

The new point distribution applies to the Lions' trip to Wisconsin. Today's newspaper kiosk begins there. The look-ahead line on FanDuel made Penn State an 11.5-point favorite, while DraftKings had it a 10.5-point favorite last week. Those numbers are now down to 7.5 and 8.5, respectively, after the Badgers defeated Northwestern 23-3 as a near-double-digit road favorite. The total is still at 47.5 points, where it was last week when the first betting information was released. Of course, head coach James Franklin's team just completed its final week off of the season.

“For a couple of weeks we weren't able to perform, maybe not play as well as we could,” Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell said after the win over the Wildcats. “And whether it was us inside or the people outside. And usually things can go one way or the other. It can bring guys together or tear guys apart.

“And if you have really good leadership and maturity, you can continue to improve. I think that's where we're at right now with that maturity and that locker room. Know what they have done and that they are part of this program and the history of this program and they lead by example. It gives us the chance to be where we are right now. And I'm not saying we're there yet, but we're in a position where we can continue to climb this mountain and see where we can go.”

Penn State-Wisconsin is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. NBC's top broadcast team will televise the match.

Quote of the day

“Just with him in general, his willingness to improve every day and adopt that one percent better mentality, he embodies that for our football team. That really impressed me. A lot of people talk about doing things like that. But he is these things and does these things. This last drive (at USC) we just call games. The best thing about this game was that we faced adversity. It wasn't perfect and we had to work hard and find a way to be successful. This last drive was a big drive and he came around and made plays.

“The touchdown to Singleton, the game-winning touchdown, was a play early in the game where he threw an interception. So for him to come back and for us to come back to him shows our faith in him. I was extremely pleased with his development and growth.”
