West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph's behavior was “unacceptable” during the crucial third ODI win against England, according to head coach Daren Sammy.

In unprecedented scenes, Alzarri took the wicket of Jordan Cox (1) in the fourth over of the game, but did not celebrate with his teammates and quickly left the field at the end of his over, seemingly sulking over the pitch that had been set by captain Shai Hope – his The team was briefly reduced to 10 players.

“I’m proud to be able to have the difficult conversations,” Sammy added. “But in such a way that everyone understands what needs to be done.”

Sky Sports' Mark Butcher said of Alzarri's outburst: “I'm sure it will have an impact on Joseph.”

“Use all anger against the opponent, do not leave the field and hurt your own team. Protect your captain, for better or for worse.”

“And overall, I thought Hope was absolutely right about the field given.”

Former West Indies captain Jason Holder said “that's not what you want to see” as he reacted to the incident TNT Sports' Coverage of the game, while Sir Alastair Cook added: “I've never seen such a reaction.”

“I have never seen Alzarri react at all. Never talk, never celebrate, never open your mouth. He just runs in and throws Jaffas – but I quite liked it because it shows he cares.”
