Two Champions League newcomers will go head-to-head on matchday three of the league phase when La Liga side Girona take on Slovakian giants Slovan Bratislava.

It was a baptism of fire in the Champions League for both teams, as neither team got a point in two games. But while Slovan was battered at Celtic Park and knocked out by Manchester City on home soil, Girona were narrowly defeated by Paris Saint-Germain and Feyenoord.

Girona's clash with the Dutch team on matchday two was a resounding success. The Spaniards lost 3-2 after a turbulent affair with own goals, saved penalties on both sides and a rare strike from Donny van de Beek.

Tuesday's hosts are struggling after the summer departure of several key players. They are a mid-table La Liga side, currently sitting in 12th place, but they will be hoping they can get their first continental result when Slovan comes to town.

The visitors returned to the top of their domestic league with a derby win at the weekend, but so far they have seemed miles off the pace in Europe.

When does the Girona vs Slovan Bratislava game start?

Location: Girona, Spain

Stadium: Estadi Municipal de Montilivi

Date: Tuesday, October 22nd

Kick-off time: 20:00 (BST) / 15:00 (ET) / 12:00 (PT)

Referee: Horatiu Fesnic (ROU)

Girona is anything but healthy and the situation will only get worse over the weekend. Yaser Asprilla is the latest fitness casualty who will not be available for this Champions League game.

Asprilla is out along with experienced duo Daley Blind and Oriol Romeu, as well as Ukrainian international Viktor Tsygankov, who is suffering from a hamstring injury.

Portu is unlikely to feature due to an ankle injury while Bryan Gil is questionable. Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek was expected to start in attacking midfield.

The visitors have some familiar names in their ranks but will be without Slovakia international Juraj Kucka, who once played for Watford, after undergoing knee surgery in September. The experienced midfielder is back in training, but this date is too early for him to return.

Former Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer is on the verge of taking on a role at the heart of the Slovan defence. The Austrian scored the Slovakian club's first Champions League goal of the season on matchday one at Celtic Park.
