WATCH: Bears WR DJ Moore leaves the field in the middle of a game for no apparent reason

Chicago Bears Wide receiver DJ Moore has taken the meaning of the phrase “taking a play off” to a whole other level.

Let me state perhaps the most obvious fact about Moore's responsibilities as a receiver: his job is to get open so the quarterback can throw him the ball. That means he has to be on the field to do it. I know, I know, these are all basic things not worth mentioning. I agree! Every recipient should know this and at least do it correctly.

But I bring it up because Moore confirmed yesterday that he has problems with this concept. Don't you believe me? I'll show you.

Early in the first quarter of an eventual 29-9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the Bears were in the lead and facing 2nd-and-6 just past midfield. The play failed, and quarterback Caleb Williams was fighting for his life, desperately trying to find someone open.

Williams eventually rolled to his left and Moore began to return to the ball and present himself to his quarterback. But when he didn't get the ball, he literally walked off the field and took off his helmet.

I swear I'm not kidding. He wears the number two and the play in question occurs at the 10-second mark.

Bruh, what in the world are you doing? I can think of a few reasons why he might have given up, but I can also think of several arguments that show he was completely wrong:

  1. He was injured on the play – Maybe, but as long as your cruciate ligament isn't torn, you'll have to fight through it. Moore also didn't appear to be injured in the video.
  2. He thought Williams had been sacked or left the field – To be fair, it looked like either one was going to happen when the defender got close to the quarterback. But you don't stop because you think something has happened, you play until the final whistle. What makes matters worse is that Williams looked back in Moore's direction after evading the defender.
  3. He's angry about his coaching situation – Moore was vocal in the last week about how I don't like Chicago's coaching staff. But does that mean you give up while the other 10 guys work their butts off? Hell no.

Mind you, this stupid depiction is coming just a week after Tyrique Stevenson was too busy to defend a Hail Mary against the Washington Commanders because he mocked some fans. This is a major culture problem within the team and it needs to change quickly.
