Virat Kohli sets an embarrassing record with a 9-ball duck against New Zealand

Indian cricket team batsman Virat Kohli set an embarrassing record after he was dismissed for a duck on the second day of the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Thursday. Kohli has struggled to score big in the recent past and his fortunes didn't change when he was dismissed by Will O'Rourke without scoring a single run. It was a short throw from the fast bowler that bounced off Kohli's gloves and Glenn Phillips managed to take a good catch at leg gully. This was Kohli's 38th international duck – joint most for any active cricketer along with New Zealand's Tim Southee. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is third on the undesirables list with 33 ducks.

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat in the rain-affected opening Test against New Zealand on Thursday.

India made two changes: Sarfaraz Khan replaced an injured Shubman Gill, who the captain said was not “100 percent” fit, and Kuldeep Yadav replaced seamer Akash Deep as the third spinner.

“Shubman Gill was unavailable for selection in the first Test due to a stiff neck,” the Indian team management said after the toss.

The first day of the match was washed out due to persistent rain.

India and New Zealand will play two more Tests, in Pune from October 24-28 and in Mumbai from November 1-5.
