Former US President Bill Clinton surprised both employees and customers when he walked into a local McDonald's during a campaign stop for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in Georgia.

Dressed casually in jeans and a bomber jacket, Clinton, once the most powerful man in the world, found himself in an unexpected situation when the clerk at the counter initially didn't recognize him.

As Clinton approached the counter, the worker stared at him, trying to place the familiar face. The 78-year-old Democrat accepted the confusion calmly and held out his hand in greeting.

While other staffers quickly realized who he was and some pulled out their phones to capture the moment, Clinton remained focused on the confused staffer. After a few moments, something clicked and the woman behind the counter beamed and shouted, “Oh my God!” before enthusiastically hugging the ex-president.

What could have been an awkward encounter quickly turned heartwarming as more phones popped up for photos and laughter filled the restaurant. A person in the background could be heard saying, “This is huge, guys!”

A video of the incident was posted on X by Clinton's deputy chief of staff.

Clinton's visit to McDonald's brought back memories of his fondness for the fast-food chain when he was younger. The Golden Arches were a frequent stop for him during his presidency.

Meanwhile, he took up the topic again his speech at the Democratic National Convention in August when he joked about Kamala Harris working at Golden Arches as a teenager, potentially breaking his record as a president who spent the most time at McDonald's.

The former president's love of McDonald's was famously parodied on “Saturday Night Live,” with comedian Phil Hartman portraying Clinton in a famous skit in which he ate customers' food while cracking jokes.

According to the Washington Post, Clinton has since swapped burgers and fries for a mostly vegan diet following his quadruple bypass surgery.
