Veteran recruit Austin Pay commits to Cougars – Deseret News

Another Pay will play in Provo.

Prized offensive lineman Austin Pay has committed to BYU, he announced on a 247 Sports livestream on Saturday. He chose the Cougars over two other finalists, Oklahoma and Oregon.

Pay will follow in the footsteps of his brothers Connor and Trevor, who currently play for the Cougars, and their father Garry, who played at BYU for five seasons between 1986 and 1992.

“It’s cool to see how well this team is doing right now,” Austin Pay said of BYU on Saturday, particularly praising new offensive line coach TJ Woods. “The offensive line is doing really well right now.”

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Pay currently has a 3-star rating from 247 Sports as the third-ranked recruit in Utah and the No. 38 offensive tackle in the country. Pay also received a 4-star rating from Rivals.

“(Austin) comes to BYU as a natural leader,” Jeff Hansen of 247 Sports wrote. “Connor is now a team captain and one of the most important players in the BYU locker room. Austin has the same natural leadership qualities and will be a leader in his career. He fits perfectly into the culture Kalani Sitake is trying to cultivate in his locker room.”

The Lone Peak product was a starter for the Knights for four years and was the highest-rated uncommitted prospect in the state before committing to the Cougars.
