US presenter Jimmy Kimmel bursts into tears during the opening monologue about Trump's victory

During the opening monologue of his US talk show, Jimmy Kimmel struggled to hold back his tears and described Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election as a “terrible night”.

The comedian led US late-night chat show hosts outlining their reaction after Mr Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Stephen Colbert noted that “the profound shock and sense of loss is enormous” and Seth Meyers called Mr. Trump a “bad person.” .

Meanwhile, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! He began his monologue by noting that the election for US president came down to a prosecutor and a criminal, “and we chose the criminal.”

“More than half of this country voted for the criminal who plans to pardon himself for his crimes. “I suspect this election was not rigged,” he joked.

Kimmel became emotional and continued: “It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make up this country, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice .”, for freedom of expression.

“It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors relying on social security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for truth, democracy and decency.”

“And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was also a bad night for everyone who voted for him, you just don’t realize it yet.”

Kimmel described it as a “really good night” for Russian leader Vladimir Putin and “lovable billionaires like Elon Musk” as well as “all the floundering brain worms who sold what was left of their souls to bow to Donald Trump.”

He joked that his only request to Mr Trump was that he “share a jail cell with Taylor Swift” after both supported Ms Harris for president.

Meanwhile, the Late Show With Stephen Colbert host began his opening monologue by declaring, “Well damn, it happened again.”

Colbert continued: “After a bizarre and vicious campaign driven by a desperate need to stay out of prison, Donald Trump has won the 2024 election.”

“The deep shock and sense of loss are enormous.”

Similarly, the host of “The Late Night With Seth Meyers” began his show reflecting on the election, admitting that he voted for the Democratic candidate, Ms. Harris.

“I don’t think Donald Trump is a good person, I would even say he’s a bad person,” Meyers said.

“In my defense, I have to say that I'm just basing it on everything I've ever been taught about what makes someone good or bad. That's it.

“And that’s real and that’s something I accept. Half the country thinks he’s a good person, or they don’t care that he’s not because they think he’s a good president, and that’s why he’s going to be our president again.”

“This is how democracy works in America. A country where it is a privilege to live.”
