A direct flight from New Jersey to Greenland? Soon it will be possible.

United Airlines is adding five new international routes to Newark Liberty International Airport – its hub – as part of a total of eight routes being added next summer.

The move represents United's largest expansion and is expected to add 760 more weekly flights, according to the company.

Starting next May, travelers will be able to fly through Newark Airport:

  • Bilbao, Spain
  • Faro, Portugal
  • Palermo, Italy

Then in June, United will add flights from Newark Airport to Madeira Island (Portugal) and Nuuk (Greenland).

United will also add nonstop flights from Tokyo to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia and from Washington DC to Dakar starting in May, followed by Tokyo to Kaohsiung in Taiwan next July.

Last month, United and Elon Musk's SpaceX announced plans to add Wi-Fi to more than 1,000 aircraft over the next few years via its Starlink satellite service.

Once operational, passengers will be able to use the Wi-Fi to connect to multiple devices for free. United said it would begin testing the service on some aircraft in early 2025.
