UEFA Nations League result: Jamie Leweling scores on his dream debut

LEWELING THE HERO AS GERMANY WINS THE NETHERLANDS

Jamie Leweling starred in his senior debut and scored the only goal of the game as Germany beat the Netherlands 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League on Monday.

Stuttgart's Leweling was cruelly denied a dream start to his international career when his goal inside two minutes was disallowed by VAR for offside. The winger thought he had given the hosts the lead on his debut, but Serge Gnabry was slightly offside in the lead-up.

Germany controlled the early stages of the game, with Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen coming into action a few times to keep the hosts at bay.

The Netherlands weathered the early storm and then gained some control of the game, which helped them survive until half-time when the game was finally decided.

There wasn't much separating the teams in the second half until another moment of magic from Leweling got Germany going. The 23-year-old picked up a loose ball from a corner and fired a great rocket into the net for the first time, sealing his first goal.

The Netherlands wanted to hit back and came close with late goals from Xavi Simons and Donyell Malen, but 34-year-old debutant Oliver Baumann made two incredible saves.

Germany were able to secure the three points and are five points ahead of Ronald Koeman's team at the top of Group A3.
