Trump's bizarre turn at the town hall has critics raising new questions about his health

Critics of Donald Trump say the former president's strange town hall event on Monday raises new questions about his health and mental capacity.

The question-and-answer event was interrupted when someone in the crowd passed out, then interrupted again when someone else passed out in the room, which Trump said was too hot.

“I personally enjoy it. “We're losing weight, you know,” Trump joked. “No, you’re losing weight. We could do this – lose 4 or 5 pounds.”

After the second person passed out, Trump decided to abandon the question-and-answer session.

“Let’s not ask any more questions. Let’s just listen to music,” he said. “Let’s make it a music festival. Who the hell wants to hear questions, right?”

He asked his audio team to play “some really nice pieces” and then stayed on stage for about 40 minutes, swaying to the songs, mouthing some of the lyrics and occasionally moving his hands to the music.

From time to time he also commented on the music, for example “great song”.

Trump's decision to cut short the questions at the town hall comes after he canceled a “60 Minutes” interview and refused to take part in a second debate with his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

This also comes amid a new focus on his health and cognition due to speeches marked by slurred words, confusion over names and location, and lengthy, rambling digressions.

“I saw a decline in his abilities in 2020 compared to ’16,” former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, once a Trump insider before becoming a critic, told New York Times columnist Frank Bruni on Sunday . “And there are still significant declines.”
