Several tropical systems are brewing in the Caribbean after a brief period of calm in the tropics. Neither system poses a direct threat to the United States, but Tropical Storm Nadine could bring flooding to Central America in the coming days.

Nadine: A Central American rainmaker

Tropical storm warnings have been issued from Belize City, Belize, to Cancun on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, meaning tropical storms are expected through the weekend.

Nadine is pushed west over the weekend. There is a short window until Saturday where it could get a little stronger before making landfall.

The system poses no threat to the United States.

The biggest threat to Nadine is heavy rains in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala and southern and eastern Mexico.

Some areas along the Caribbean coast from the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras could experience gusty winds this weekend.

Tropical Storm Oscar forms near the Greater Antilles

In addition to Nadine, another well-defined system is expected to be upgraded to a tropical storm this morning.

It is located north of Hispaniola and close to the Turks and Caicos Islands. This weekend it will move west toward the eastern tip of Cuba and then turn north over the Bahamas next week.

Gusty winds and some rain are the most likely threats for parts of the Bahamas through Monday or Tuesday.
