“Treated you like trash”: Trump uses Biden criticism as a rallying cry in battleground North Carolina

Former President Trump said the Biden-Harris administration treated the American people and “our entire country like trash” and claimed it is now clear what President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris “really think about our supporters.”

Trump held a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Wednesday afternoon, just a day after Harris made her final address to voters in a speech in Washington, DC

The vice president's address was quickly overshadowed by Biden's comments during a Zoom call with Voto Latino on Tuesday.

During the call with the group, which is one of the largest Latino voter and civic advocacy groups in the U.S., Biden was asked about a comment he made during a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday that featured comedian Tony Hinchcliffe described Puerto Rico as a “floating” island of trash.

Biden responded: “The only trash I see floating out there is his supporters.”

The White House has since denied that Biden called Trump supporters “trash,” claiming the comment was taken out of context.

During Wednesday's rally, Trump said Harris had “compared her political opponents to the most vicious mass murderers in history, and now Joe Biden finally said what he and Kamala really think of our supporters on a campaign call last night.”

“He called them trash – and they mean it, even though my supporters are without question far more quality than corrupt Joe and Lyin' Kamala,” Trump told his supporters.

But Trump said he had an answer for the president and vice president.

“My answer to Joe and Kamala is simple: You can't lead America if you don't love Americans,” Trump said. “And you can’t be president if you hate the American people, and there’s a lot of hate.”

Trump is urging his supporters to “forgive” Biden as a show of unity after the president called supporters “trash.”

Trump said Harris was “not fit to be president of the United States.”

“She doesn’t have the intellect, the stamina or that special quality that real leaders need to have to lead. We know what that is. It’s a special power,” he said. “Joe Biden, his comments were the direct result of Kamala and Tim Walz.”

Trump condemned Biden's “decision to portray anyone who doesn't vote for them as evil or subhuman.”

“They are not subhuman. The way I look at it is, you're not subhuman, and we know they believe that because look how they treated you,” Trump said. “They treated you like trash… Do you know what the truth is? They treated our entire country like trash whether they wanted to or not because they are completely incompetent people and they destroyed our country.”

Trump also criticized Harris and the Democrats for their insults to Republicans “over the last nine years.”

“Kamala and her party called us racists, bigots, fascists, deplorable, irredeemable Nazis, and they called me Hitler,” Trump said. “You know, many years ago I had a father, a great guy, who was a strong guy, a legitimate guy, strong. But you know, he always told me, 'Never use the word 'Nazi.' Never use the word 'Nazi' word Hitler.' Now we are called Nazis and my name is Hitler. I am not Hitler.

Reflecting on his father, Trump said: “He looks down. Well, my mother, I know she's looking down. My father is a little questionable because he was a little rough. I think he looks down… He would say, 'Can you?' Imagine? That's what they call my son? I told him for years never to use the term “Nazis” or “Hitler.” Now they're using it on us.' It's incredible.

Trump added: “They have harassed you, they have humiliated us, they have demonized us and censored us… and used the power of our own government against us.”

Vice President Kamala Harris

Harris responded to Biden's remark on Wednesday, defending the president and saying he had “clarified his comments.”

“I think that, first of all, he has clarified his comments, but let me be clear that I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” Harris said.

Harris, referring to her speech Tuesday night at the Ellipse near the White House, reiterated Wednesday how voters will decide “who we are as a nation and whether we will be a nation of people who seek to unify and unify this era.” “Division, or will we be a nation of people with a president stewing in the Oval Office over his list of enemies?”

“You heard my speech last night and constantly throughout my career,” Harris said. “I believe my job is about representing all people, whether they support me or not, and as president of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, whether you vote for me or not.”

Harris told reporters she spoke with Biden on Tuesday evening, but his “garbage” comment did not come up during their conversation.

“He called me last night and it didn’t come up,” Harris said.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, Trump threw his weight behind voters, promising to “end inflation. I will stop the massive invasion of criminals in our country. And I’m going to bring back something called the American dream.”

“Our country will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer and stronger than ever before,” he said. “And this election is a choice between whether we are in for four more years of gross incompetence and failure or whether we are embarking on the greatest four years in our country’s history.”
