Top 25 in Week 8

We've been looking forward to Week 7 all offseason. That's because there was one solid Matchups to look forward to Ohio StateOregon, TexasOklahoma, LSUOle Miss And Penn StateUSC.

The lineup lived up to the hype as all but one of the games ended in a score, two of which went into overtime.

Ahead of another great weekend in Week 8, here's a look at our updated top 25 rankings. Please note that these are not the same as those PFF's Power Rankings.


1. Texas Longhorns (Record: 6-0, Previous: 1st)

Week 8 Matchup: vs. No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs

Texas dominated at that time-No. 18 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry and won with a final score of 34-3. The Longhorns' defense was completely out of action in the win, allowing just 3.4 yards per play. They'll likely need a similar performance against Carson Beck next week Georgia in the biggest game of Week 8.


2. Oregon Ducks (Record: 6-0, Previous: 3rd)

Week 8 Matchup: at Purdue Boilermakers

In what is probably the biggest game of the year so far Oregon emerged victorious over the then no. 2 Ohio State with a point win. Dillon Gabriel re-entered the Heisman conversation with an 87.6 rating against the Buckeyes' defense, which is one of the best in America. If Texas loses against Georgia Come Saturday, the Ducks could be the new top team in the country as long as they take care of business against them Purdue on Friday evening.


3. Penn State Nittany Lions (Record: 6-0, Previous: 6th)

Week 8 Matchup: Bye

Penn State staged a 14-point comeback to escape Los Angeles with a 33-30 overtime win USC. Tight end Tyler Warren was sensational in the win, setting the FBS record for a tight end with 17 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown, including 145 after the catch. The Nittany Lions will take a break a week before departure Wisconsin next weekend.


4. Miami (FL) Hurricanes (Record: 6-0, Previous: 5.)

Week 8 matchup: at Louisville Cardinals

After back-to-back double-digit comeback wins Miami I enjoyed the much needed bye week and will be traveling there Louisville on Saturday.


5. Alabama Crimson Tide (Record: 5-1, Previous: 7.)

Week 8 Matchup: at No. 16 Tennessee Volunteers

After losing to unranked Vanderbilt last week, Alabama narrowly missed with a two-point win South Carolina on Saturday. While Jalen Milroe and the receivers struggled, the Crimson Tide's offensive line held up very well against an elite Gamecock front. Alabama gave up just four pressures in 28 pass-blocking snaps and posted an 81.7 pass-blocking grade as a team.


6. Georgia Bulldogs (Record: 5-1, Previous: 4th)

Week 8 Matchup: at No. 1 Texas Longhorns

Georgia certainly didn't score any style points with a 41:31 win Mississippi Stateas the Bulldogs entered this contest as 34.5-point favorites. While Georgia's defense struggled, Carson Beck shined. He achieved a passing grade of 91.5 with 465 pass yards and four great throws in the win. Beck will compete against a Texas Defense next week that leads the nation with a coverage grade of 93.9.


7. Ohio State Buckeyes (Record: 5-1, Previous: 2nd)

Week 8 Matchup: Bye

Ohio State plummets a few places after its loss Oregon last weekend. Although the Ducks ranked 51st in run defense, star tailback Quinshon Judkins averaged just 2.3 yards per carry. The Buckeyes will use this bye week to recover from the loss before the game Nebraska in a few weeks.


8. BYU Cougars (Record: 6-0, Previous: 8th)

Week 8 Matchup: vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

BYU continued to be one of the biggest surprises in college football with a dominant 41-19 win Arizona. The offensive line in particular was outstanding, allowing just four pressures on 33 pass-blocking snaps and helping the running backs average 1.8 yards before contact per attempt.


9. Iowa State Cyclones (Record: 6-0, Previous: 13th)

Week 8 Matchup: vs. UCF Knights

Iowa State went into a difficult road environment West Virginia and beat the Mountaineers by a final score of 28-16. Quarterback Rocco Becht shined with three great throws and no plays worthy of turnovers. The Cyclones are now 6-0 for the first time since 1938.


10. Pittsburgh Panthers (Record: 6-0, Previous: 15.)

Week 8 Matchup: Bye

Pitt got off to a 6-0 start with a 17-15 win for the first time since the days of Dan Marino in 1982 California. The Panthers defense was outstanding against the Golden Bears, allowing just 4.3 yards per play. Pittsburgh is off this week before he starts Syracuse next weekend.

13. Kansas State Wildcats (Record: 5-1, Previous: 14th)

14. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Record: 5-1, Previous: 10.)

15. Texas A&M Aggies (Record: 5-1, Previous: 17.)

16. Tennessee Volunteers (Record: 5-1, Previous: 9th)

17. Clemson Tigers (Record: 5-1, Previous: 22.)

18. Missouri Tigers (Record: 5-1, Previous: 19th)

19. Illinois Fighting Illini (Record: 5-1, Previous: 20.)

20. SMU Mustangs (Record: 5-1, Previous: 21st)

21. Boise State Broncos (Record: 5-1, Previous: 23.)
