For the most part, things are going well for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite a few setbacks along the way, the team is off to a 4-2 start and has a number of upcoming games where they can truly establish themselves as Super Bowl contenders.

Last season, the Bucs had tremendous success thanks to the way young players stepped up, particularly rookies and undrafted free agents. These guys have all had a year under their belt and continue to make progress as the team moves up.

Zyon McCollum, Calijah Kancey and Yaya Diaby have all become key pieces on the defense, and following in their footsteps is a rookie class that has already begun to make an impact. Bucky Irving has been a revelation out of the backfield and Graham Barton has helped improve the offensive line as advertised.

However, not everyone has a good year.

While Irving is one of the hottest rookies in the league, Jalen McMillan came to Tampa Bay with more hype and after a higher draft pick was used on him. So far he hasn't lived up to the hype, and that's something he's already being criticized for in the hopes that he'll turn things around.

McMillan started the season as the team's WR3, but struggled with injuries and poor performance in the first few weeks of the season. He has already missed one game due to a hamstring injury he suffered earlier in the year, which Todd Bowles said is holding him back.

Hoping to get a little more out of McMillan, Todd Bowles challenged him this week, telling him he needed to catch up mentally.

“If you miss a few weeks as a rookie, it’s like a lifetime,” Bowles said, via JoeBucsFan. “So he has to deal with the mental part of the game and speed it up a little bit.”

McMillan made some pretty bizarre decisions as Tampa Bay's punt returner against the Saints, regularly executing kicks inside the team's 10-yard line. He didn't fumble a punt, but his refusal to let the ball bounce for a touchback cost the Bucs critical yardage.

Luckily they didn't need those yards in a 51-27 win, but the mental errors are textbook rookie mistakes. Right now, the Bucs don't have a reliable WR3 option, especially with Sterling Shephard also struggling. The path for McMillan to secure the third receiver role behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin is still open, and based on what Bowles says, that's exactly what's expected of him.
