Oddly enough, and without realizing it at the time, I used the exact same opening word and second guess as yesterday: CRATE followed by BOINK. So much for originality! My first guess gave me a lone “A” in yellow and my second – which was made entirely of new letters – gave me a lucky green “B”. From here I tried putting them together with BALMY and that worked quite well, reducing my remaining options to just two: BAWDY and BAGGY. It was a coin toss and, as I often do, I chose the word without double letters. Luckily, this time I was right. BAWDY for the win!

A total wash, I think, for the third day in a row. 0 for guessing four and 0 for matching the bot. C'est la vie!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

• Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
• If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
• Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
• You can keep a running list or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today's Wordle etymology

The word cheeky comes from the Middle English word bawdewhich means “lewd, obscene.” This term was derived from bawdwhich referred to someone who promoted immoral or promiscuous behavior, especially a matchmaker or pimp. Bawd itself came from Old French Baudemeaning “joyful” or “courageous,” and the sense of risqué humor that developed in English in the 16th century.
