I expected CRATE to do much better, but I was left with just one yellow box and 185 possible solutions remaining. Ouch. Since I decided to use completely new letters, I tried BOINK for my second attempt, but that didn't work so well either. There were 18 words left and all I had were two measly yellow boxes. However, HANDY did it and reduced the number to just two: SANDY or DANDY. I thought SANDY was the more likely of the two, and in fact it was the Wordle. Huzzah!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

• Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
• If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
• Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
• You can keep a running list or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today's Wordle etymology

The word sandy comes from Middle English and is derived from Old English sandywhich means “made of sand” or “covered with sand.” It's related to that sandwhich can be traced back in particular to Proto-Germanic roots Sandazand to Proto-Indo-European samdha or sabhdhwhich means “gravel” or “sand”. This Proto-Indo-European root gave rise to similar words in other languages, such as sand in Old Norse, sant in Dutch and sand in German.

The suffix -y In sandy is a common English adjunct used to form adjectives and means “full of” or “characterized by”. So sandy Essentially meaning “full of sand” or “having the properties of sand,” it describes something that resembles or is covered with sand.
