Today on Pinstripe Alley – 10/19/24

Maybe it wasn't the way the Yankees planned, but they survived another scary game in Cleveland to take a 3-1 lead in the ALCS. With the NLCS taking the day off to return to Los Angeles, New York has the stage all to themselves and a chance to secure their first World Series appearance in 15 years if they win tonight. If not, then the series shifts back to New York with two more chances – including ace Gerrit Cole on the mound for one of those two games – but surely everyone in this clubhouse wants to call it quits tonight rather than give this Cleveland team one to give an ounce of life after fighting so hard the last two days. As Giancarlo Stanton said in postgame interviews, the celebration isn't done yet: “It's like nothing until we do it.”

Yesterday's games are still fresh in our minds after all the chaos that followed, and today Peter starts us off with a look back at the Mets' desperate attempt to keep their streak alive, before Andrew drops in and shares his five most heartbreaking moments lists the Yankees' win last night. Sara gives Gleyber Torres the Player of the Game award for his efforts to get the offense going, and Estevão marvels at the power imbalance that gave the Yankees the series lead after their recent three-bomb performance again made a difference. John highlights El Duque's outstanding performance in being named ALCS MVP in our 1999 diary, and then I'll be back to answer your latest mailbag questions.

1. How many times did you throw up your hands on all of the momentum plays in Game 4?

2. It's the first time since 2017 that we can ask this question: Will the Yankees advance to the World Series tonight?
