Thousands of power outages were reported across western Washington

Crews began work Monday morning to restore power to thousands of people in the Puget Sound area

Several utilities in Western Washington are investigating multiple power outages in the area. While some of the causes remain to be determined, most of these outages were reportedly caused by trees, vegetation and storm-related damage.

The FOX 13 weather team has issued a weather advisory for Monday for two reasons: first, significant mountain snow over the higher mountain passes and second, strong winds in the lowlands of western Washington. Rain could also make the morning commute around Puget Sound challenging.

At around 8:40 a.m., Snohomish PUD reported approximately 1,907 customers without power, most of them on Camano Island.

At around 8:40 a.m., Puget Sound Energy (PSE) reported 122 active outages affecting approximately 6,807 people. PSE's outage map spans the entire Puget Sound lowlands from Bellingham to Centralia. Most PSE outages occur in the Olympia area.

According to the Seattle City Light outage map as of 8:41 a.m., 159 customers are without power in the Wedgewood neighborhood of Seattle. The cause of this particular outage is still under investigation.

Washington State Ferries announced this morning that the Port Townsend – Coupeville route is out of service until further notice, including due to severe weather.
