There's a familiar name at the helm of the 80th National Peanut Festival Parade

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – This year's National Peanut Festival Parade is led by a name long-time Dothan residents may recognize.

Harry Hall will be this year's Grand Marshall, and if you think that name sounds familiar, you're right.

Hall's grandfather, after whom he is named, served as grand marshal of the parade's 50th edition.

Hall said he was thirteen when he attended the parade with his grandfather.

Now, 30 years later, the board is doing its part to honor the lasting impact the Hall family name has had on the Peanut Festival.

“When the board asked me to be Grand Marshall, they told me that he was the first president of their board and that they wanted to honor that…it's, uh, maybe a family tradition that we support…it's a great tradition and There are a lot of people who put a lot of energy into it. So I’m excited about everyone’s hard work,” Hall said.

Hall was born and raised in Dothan. He called himself an “old school Dothan boy” and said he was a “big fan” of everything Dothan does. He has practiced law for 32 years, raised his own family and has been involved in several community projects throughout the Wiregrass.

He will now take on the role of Grand Marshal of the 80th edition of the National Peanut Festival Parade and is excited to be involved in this year's changes. He believes the new route, time and events leading up to the parade will help people experience downtown, which he called “the heart of Dothan,” in a way never before possible.

The parade begins on October 26th at 3:30 p.m.
