The Wild Purdy stat puts the 49ers QB in rare company after the win over the Cowboys

Wild-Purdy stat puts 49ers QB in rare company after win over Cowboys originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Brock Purdy's second-half resurgence against the Dallas Cowboys put the 49ers quarterback in a class of his own on Sunday night.

In the third quarter of San Francisco's 30-24 prime-time win on “Sunday Night Football,” Purdy did something no quarterback has done this century.

Of the 26,276 NFL quarters played since 2000, including the playoffs, Purdy was the only quarterback to throw for more than 100 yards on 100 percent completions while also rushing for at least 30 yards in a single quarter, according to OptaSTATS.

Purdy and the 49ers entered halftime trailing 10-6 after both teams played sluggishly in the first two quarters.

He told reporters after the game that he had to get “real” with himself at halftime and knew he had to get better to help win again.

And that's exactly what he did.

On their first drive of the second half, Purdy led a five-play, 60-yard touchdown drive to give the 49ers a 13-10 lead.

After a disappointing start for Purdy and the 49ers' offense early in Sunday's game between the NFC rivals, Purdy took matters into his own hands with his arms and legs. The third-year pro rushed for 37 yards in the third quarter, including a 2-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds left in the quarter.

In total, he gained 56 yards on eight rushing attempts – the same number of rushing yards as the Cowboys' entire offense – and finished the game with 18 of 26 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions and a passer rating of 114.3.

After one of the worst performances of his young career last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, Purdy turned things around and helped his team get a much-needed win while also making history.
