The Raiders are firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and two other offensive coaches

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The struggling Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as part of a shakeup of the offensive coaching staff Sunday night, less than a year after Las Vegas hired him.

Quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg were also fired. Both were also in office for less than a year.

The moves take place on the same day The Raiders lost 41-24 in Cincinnatitheir fifth defeat in a row, 2:7.

Coach Antonio Pierce's decision-making also came under scrutiny after Raiders fans were treated to a feel-good story after he finished 5-4 as interim coach last season. These moves will increase the focus on what Pierce does going forward to get the Raiders moving in the right direction.

He will meet with the media on a virtual call Monday morning and will likely be asked who will fill the now-vacant positions.

Pierce touted that Setting of Getsywho came to Las Vegas with major doubts because he was fired by the Bears after last season, particularly because of his treatment of quarterback Justin Fields. Chicago didn't just decide to do that Getsy released But Trading areas to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Under Getsy's leadership, the Raiders ranked near the bottom of the NFL in several offensive categories. They average just 18.7 points and 280.2 yards per game.

Going into the season, expectations were low as the Raiders' quarterbacks were journeyman Gardner Minshew and second-year pro Aidan O'Connell, who was steady but less than spectacular in the latter half of last season. The Raiders have since signed Desmond Ridderwho sat out in Atlanta and was on Arizona's practice squad.

There was also the trade drama surrounding wide receiver Davante Adams, who ended up being it sent to the New York Jets.

Regardless, Getsy did himself little favors with his often conservative style of play, which came under increasing scrutiny as losses mounted each week. He showed little ability to make in-game adjustments.

The Raiders scored opening-game touchdowns in four of their last five games and four in their other 50 series combined.

Midseason changes are nothing new for the Raiders, as they will change their head coach or coordinator midway through the year for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther was fired near the end of the 2020 season, coach Jon Gruden was replaced after five games in 2021 due to the release of his offensive emails and coach Josh McDaniels was fired after eight games last season. Now Getsy is gone.
