The Patriots' leading receiver is limited due to an upset stomach

LONDON – DeMario Douglas was enjoying his trip until trouble hit him on Sunday.

The Patriots' No. 1 receiver felt ill in the early morning hours before kickoff at Wembley Stadium. Then he started vomiting. Douglas was not with his teammates during pregame warmups and at the start of the game. The receiver had limited involvement on Sunday.

After the game, Douglas said he didn't want to go into detail but believed he was having problems after eating in London on Saturday. His teammates said it was impressive that he tried to stamp it out.

“Yeah, that was tough,” Kendrick Bourne said. “We definitely missed Pop out there. You can see how important he is for our offense. We missed him out there. I hope he's feeling better. London food – we have a pickle with us.”

The Patriots' top receiver caught two passes for 14 yards in the significant loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. At some point when Douglas left the game, the team announced that a return was questionable due to an illness.

Both of Douglas' catches came on the Patriots' first drive. He was not targeted in the second half as he was still struggling with stomach problems.

Without Douglas, Drake Maye tried to distribute the ball. The Patriots' two leading pass catchers were tight end Hunter Henry (92 yards) and JaMychal Hasty (49 yards).

“Pop is a great player for us,” Mayo said. “He made some good plays on the first drive. But it's the next man's turn. It's the NFL. A few big guys are flying into each other on the field, so it's the next man's turn. We thank Pop for fighting through it and being out there as much as he could. He’s a great player for us and hopefully we’ll have him back.”
