The Oregon State Beavers stumble from a messy loss on the road to Nevada

The Oregon State Beavers almost staged a thrilling comeback, but fell just short in the desert.

Nevada beat the Beavers 42-37 at Mackay Stadium in Reno, handing Oregon State its second loss of the season.

OSU quarterback Gevani McCoy had by far his most productive game of the year, but also his most sporadic. He completed 27 of 42 passes for a season-high 348 yards and a touchdown. But he also threw four interceptions – including a backbreaker on the final play of the game.

Anthony Hankerson ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries for the Beavers. Trent Walker caught seven passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.

The loss drops Oregon State to 4-2 on the year.

But Gevani McCoy and the Oregon State offense went four-and-out and had to punt.

The Beavers stayed in the game thanks to a 75-yard scoring drive that Anthony Hankerson capped off with a 1-yard run up the middle. That cut Nevada's lead to 35-30 with 6:59 left.

Oregon State attempted a two-point conversion but failed.

Disaster struck for Oregon State when Gevani McCoy was intercepted by running back Kitan Crawford, who ran the ball for a 52-yard touchdown return. The pick-six gave Nevada a 35-24 lead with 10:43 left.

This is McCoy's second costly interception of the game.

Result: Nevada 28, Oregon State 24

Savion Red continues to walk all over the Beavers.

Nevada's standout running back reached the end zone for the fourth time today – this time on a 6-yard run – to give the Wolf Pack a 28-24 lead with 13:37 left.

Red rushed for 142 yards on 20 runs in the game.

Anthony Hankerson has 92 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground and is acting as a bell cow again this week. He has 14 of Oregon State's 19 carries.

Gevani McCoy found Jeremiah Noga for a 27-yard pass to put the Beavers into Nevada territory. Then, one play later, Anthony Hankerson broke out for an 18-yard touchdown run, giving the Beavers a 17-14 lead with 38 seconds left before halftime.

With this run, Hankerson has rushed for 92 yards on 14 carries today.

The Beavers put together another promising drive and fought their way to the Nevada 4-yard line. But again they didn't take advantage of the chance.

Oregon State had to settle for a 22-yard field goal from Everett Hayes to cut Nevada's lead to 14-10 with 4:51 left in the half.

Beavers freshman running back Salahadin Allah is expected to take on an increased workload this week with Jam Griffin out due to injury.

Allah got his first carry of the game early in the second quarter and played an important role throughout the series.

After beating Gevani McCoy in the red zone, Nevada orchestrated a 13-play, 78-yard drive that took up 6:36 of game time.

Savion Red finished the game with his second touchdown of the day – a 5-yard run – to extend the Wolf Pack lead to 14-7 with 10:44 left in the second quarter.

Nevada ensures turnovers at the goal line

Oregon State marched to the Nevada 3-yard line and appeared poised to score. But OSU quarterback Gevani McCoy was picked by Tori Daffin to change the momentum in the Wolf Pack's favor.

Result: Oregon State 7, Nevada 7

Nevada responded with a quick 75-yard scoring drive of its own.

Savion Red delivered the game's first explosive play – a 33-yard touchdown run to tie the score with 7:56 left in the first quarter.

Result: Oregon State 7, Nevada 0

Oregon State had no problem moving the ball on its first drive.

Jake Reichle capped an eight-play, 75-yard series with a 1-yard run up the middle to find pay dirt with 10:48 left in the first quarter. Hankerson and Reichle were the only OSU running backs on the drive.

Oregon State will be without its standout running back Jam Griffin this afternoon.

He is out with a lower leg injury.

Look for junior Anthony Hankerson to be extremely productive this season while splitting game reps with Griffin to handle a heavy workload against the Wolfpack.
