The Lions give Campbell the game ball back in a speech in the locker room

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff turned the tables on head coach Dan Campbell in the AT&T Stadium locker room after the Lions beat the Dallas Cowboys 47-9 on Sunday, and it was a beautiful thing to witness.

Campbell's postgame speech began with his usual summary of the game's achievements.

“This is the closest team this group has ever had. This is the closest this 2024 team has ever been,” Campbell said in a clip shared on social media. “We found something special last year, man. I felt it going into this game. Man, it’s like we’re here together.”

“This is a great win. You didn't let off the gas. This is one way to finish it.”

Campbell said the win left him with two game balls to give.

“And this time I wrote down some stats,” Campbell said — referencing his initial snub of Goff two weeks ago after his 18-for-18 performance against the Seattle Seahawks — as the locker room erupted in laughter.

The first ball, of course, went to Goff, who threw for 315 yards on an 18-for-25 passing game.

“Thanks, guys. I love you all. Keep going,” Goff said.

The second possession went to safety Brian Branch, who had two interceptions, a forced fumble and 6 tackles (5 solo).

“Our department starts this week. “It’s a great win,” Campbell said. “Do the math,” he said, turning to Goff.

“Hey, real quick. Real quick. Real quick,” Goff began, holding the game ball in his hand. “Our (expletive) head coach is now our (expletive) rock. We're in Dallas at his (expletive) place where he played. The ball is in his court.”

Goff then gave his ball back to Campbell.

Campbell sheepishly grabbed Goff's cue ball, blushed and smiled broadly but shyly as the action broke out in the locker room.

The Lions next travel to Minneapolis to face their NFC North rival and undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at 1 p.m.
