The Joel Embiid-less Sixers wrap up their preseason road trip in Atlanta against the new-look Hawks

Anyone hoping to see the Sixers' new Big Three this preseason was dealt a major blow on Sunday.

The team announced that while Embiid is making “good progress” with his left knee, he will miss the entire preseason. Take this update as you wish. The Sixers open the regular season at home in nine days against Doc Rivers and the Milwaukee Bucks.

You should expect everyone else to burn a bit tonight – unlike what we saw in Boston on Saturday night. The Celtics, who played most of the rotation that won them the championship last season, beat a Sixers team that more closely resembled a summer league squad.

The good news is that you can actually see Paul George this time when the game is broadcast on NBA television. The nine-time All-Star had a strong preseason debut for the Sixers last Friday in Iowa against the Timberwolves. The veteran winger dropped 23 points in 26 minutes, shooting 4 of 9 from three and adding six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Tyrese Maxey played a strong game alongside him, scoring 21 points in 26 minutes and going 4 of 7 from long range.

There are no official preseason injury reports, but Atlanta hasn't played since Oct. 8 (the Oct. 10 game against the Miami Heat was postponed because of Hurricane Milton), so you can expect a mostly complete roster. Bogan Bogdanovic (pause), Onyeka Okongwu (toe) and Cody Zeller (outside) did not play in the Hawks' win over the Pacers last week.

This is our first look at No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher, who impressed with 18 points in the win over Indiana. All-Star guard Trae Young (17 points, six assists) and rising forward Jalen Johnson (19 points, 10 rebounds) also made good impressions in the new-look Hawks' win.

The franchise traded guard Dejounte Murray to the Pelicans in a summer blockbuster. New Orleans sent promising young winger Dyson Daniels from Atlanta, EJ Liddel (who went to the Suns for David Roddy), and veterans Larry Nance Jr. and Zeller. The Hawks also received two first-round picks.
