The Internet Is Obsessed With Grotesquerie's Hot Priest (And You Should Be Too)

From the pen of Ryan Murphy comes a brand new horror fiction series for FX. grotesqueThe focus is on a small-town serial killer who uses religious imagery in his murders. Although the series was canceled at the end of September, it caused a stir because of the latest internet heartthrob, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who was just portrayed in Murphy's Season 2's Lyle Menendez Monster. As if that wasn't enough, he plays a hot priest. There's really no other way to get around this fact, it's the truth.

If you're anything like me when I picked up this series, maybe you were looking for a spooky thrill for the Halloween season, or maybe you're just a fan of Murphy's extensive filmography (the good and the bad). Then there's a special subsection that might just be watching to find out what Chavez mania is all about. Let me tell you, if it's the latter… I bow to you.

grotesque is not dissimilar to Murphy's other projects, as it resembles the earlier seasons of American horror story in many ways. However, the acting here is remarkable; in particular from the friendly police duo Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash) and the nun-journalist Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond), who writes for the Catholic Guardian.

As for the “hot priest,” this term is actually nothing new; it has been around for centuries. Among the most notable modern performances is Jude Law, who starred in HBO's The young popeEthan Hawke in Reformed first. And of course who could forget that Flea bagIs Andrew Scott? Chavez is just the latest face of celibacy, but as he will tell you, he didn't take inspiration from any “hot priests” per se, instead opting to create a character all his own.

He explained US Weekly that he looked to the late cult leader Charles Manson and “Wicked Game” singer Chris Isaak while imagining what Father Charlie Mayhew should be. “All of these things culminated in the character you see on screen,” he said. “I just took inspiration from a lot of different places and tried to find my way into an interesting character.”

Father Charlie is a young, progressive priest who wants to do away with the old ways of the Catholic Church. Before his vow of celibacy, he was a personal trainer at a gym. He's an interesting character who oozes sex appeal and clearly uses his power, status and sexuality to manipulate others. And yet Chavez's compelling portrayal of such a toxic character is quite refreshing, especially for a young actor.

Sure, the internet is completely fixated on other…aspects…of its performance, but it seems like it's almost like that Point. For centuries, the idea – or perhaps the fantasy – of the “hot” priest in literature and popular culture has clouded the minds of many. The silent desire for an unattainable figure is such a compelling storyline to explore that few have dared to truly delve into it. With grotesque and especially Father Charlie, Murphy takes it a step further.

Chavez previously portrayed Spencer Cassadine on the long-running soap for several years General Hospitalwhich earned him a Daytime Emmy. While starring in a few indie projects, he helped open the floodgates Monster which hasn't even been on the market for a month at the time of writing. While he and Cooper Koch will almost certainly win an award for their roles as Lyle and Erik Menendez, portraying a real person as opposed to an original character is something entirely different.

After this week's episodes, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Father Charlie as he finds himself caught in a messy web of darkness. We won't have to wait long to see the fate of the character under the mask, as new episodes of grotesque arrives Wednesday nights at 10:00 pm EST on FX and streams the next day on Hulu.

what is grotesque Um?

grotesque The focus is on Detective Lois Tryon, who is determined to find out who this serial killer in her small town is before she finally retires. On the way, her husband ends up in long-term treatment in the hospital, she meets some very interesting characters like Travis Kelce, who plays a nurse and gives her a ride in his red sports car, and a journalist, nun, Sister Megan.

The synopsis reads: “With her own troubled past, Sister Megan has seen the worst of humanity, but still believes in her ability to do good. Lois, on the other hand, fears that the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan piece together clues, they find themselves caught in a sinister web that seems to raise more questions than answers.”

The series also stars Emmy Award winner Courtney B. Vance as Marshall Tryon, Emmy Award nominee Lesley Manville as Nurse Redd and Raven Goodwin as Merritt Tryon.
