The Indian River Co. driver faces his 10th DUI

A driver faces a tenth drunk driving conviction after he was allegedly caught speeding on U.S. Highway 1 Tuesday night.

When officers pulled him over, the driver initially tried to give them a false name, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office (IRCSO) reported. However, this duplicity did not hide the driver's obvious signs of intoxication or the fact that he did not have a driver's license.

When officers learned the driver was Mark Yates, they discovered he had a long history of driving under the influence. Yates already has nine DUIs on his record. He has also been convicted of driving with a revoked license six times, and IRCSO noted that he regularly violates other traffic laws.

He was booked into the Indian River County Jail on charges of driving under the influence, knowingly driving with a revoked license and giving a false name while in custody.

The IRCSO statement ended with a reminder that there is no reason to drink and drive, and a reminder to use a ride share or select a specific driver for the night.
