The Hawks defeated the Pelicans in the second half, winning 126-111

The Atlanta Hawks were in New Orleans to take on the Pelicans on Sunday night. Both teams entered the game with several injuries to key players. The Pelicans were missing Dejounte Murray, CJ McCollum, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III and Zion Williamson.

The Hawks are still missing De'Andre Hunter, Kobe Bufkin, Vit Krejci and Bogdan Bogdanovic, but were able to bring back Dyson Daniels.

Daniels made an impact early in the game with this floater.

The Hawks took an early lead, and Zaccharie Risacher took advantage, scoring nine points in the first quarter.

Both Daniels and Risacher worked to convert defense into offense in this game.

The Pelicans fought back in the first round, but the Hawks still led 33-30 heading into the second round. It was once again a back-and-forth quarter, but Garrison Mathews opened the game with a three-pointer following his strong play against the Sacramento Kings on Friday.

The Pelicans began to build a lead midway through the quarter, but the Hawks were able to find a rhythm and regain the lead.

Jose Alvarado gave the Pelicans the lead with a few seconds left in the game and the Hawks went into halftime trailing 59-58.

The Hawks started the second half with fireworks, going on a 7-0 run to take the lead. Daniels found Jalen Johnson on the break for this one and a dunk later in the quarter.

Trae Young had a solid third quarter, got a few assists and also hit a few three-pointers. The Hawks had a lead of as many as 12 points in the third quarter.

Larry Nance Jr. knocked this monster down late in the third quarter, causing excitement on the Hawks' bench at the other end.

At the start of the fourth round, the Hawks led by eight points and extended the lead early. Johnson channeled his inner Nance from the previous quarter and threw down a monster dunk of his own.

After that moment, the Hawks pulled away from the Pelicans as they racked up three straight steals and scored on every possession. From there, the game was out of reach and the Hawks were able to leave New Orleans with a win.

Johnson finished the game with 29 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, Young with 23 points and 12 assists and Daniels with 16 points.

The Hawks will be back at home tomorrow to take on the Boston Celtics.
