Good morning! Check out the Saints fan in your life today (me).

Not finished yet: The guards refuse to leave

For most of the evening our minds were preoccupied with the Guardians expecting gentle applause. Happy season, boys. But soon it will be time to get out.

But they didn't listen. A tenacious, talented Cleveland group shook off a late comeback by the towering Yankees – who scored four runs in the eighth and ninth innings – and mounted an incredible comeback of their own, winning 7-5 in extras to cut New York's lead to 2 :1.

It's impossible to lose when a man nicknamed “Big Christmas” hits a game-winning two-run home run in the ninth. And then David Fry did this at the end of the 10th:

That's enough. It was an incredible game, another postseason epic that became a tome full of games like that.

  • In New York, however The Mets' dreams of a comeback of their own died again and again in the Dodgers' 10-2 victory. Shohei Ohtani hit a home run for the second straight game. Mookie Betts also hit a home run and drove in four runs. LA is terrifying.

Tonight the Dodgers can advance to the World Series while the ALCS is suddenly a winner.

You know what wasn't a barn burner? Thursday night football. Meager:

Tilt: Some people may apparently going home

I don't want to say much about Denver 33-10 Shellac finish of my saints in New Orleans, but my job forces me to. Two (crap) things:

  • Sean Payton showed that he is still running his former franchisewhen the man who won a Super Bowl with the Saints went into the Superdome and brutally ran over a struggling team. Denver is 4-3 and on the rise. The running attack last night was strong. A playoff spot seems within reach.
  • The Saints, meanwhile, are 2-5 and have lost five straight And, as Richard Sherman said on the broadcast, it looks like they're trying to fire coach Dennis Allen. Yes, the team has suffered significant injuries since the 2-0 win, but there is a glaring lack of effort across the board. At this rate, it's easy to wonder if Allen will survive the year.

Sigh. It continues:

Interesting facts

Bennett's shocking retirement
Tony Bennet, the 55-year-old Virginia men's basketball coach, announced his immediate resignation yesterday, just 20 days before the start of the college basketball season. The 2019 national champion did not give a reason for the sudden move but will address the media today. Nothing has been announced about an interim coach. Further information can be found here.

Kawhi misses even more time
Clippers star Kawhi Leonard will miss the start of the season, the team announced yesterday, as the oft-injured 33-year-old continues to rehab his surgically repaired knee. The team described his absence as “indefinite,” although he appears to have suffered no setbacks during his recovery. As a reminder: Paul George and Russell Westbrook can no longer be seen in the clips. Full injury details inside.

The Good Bet: Go Dawgs (up to a point)

Last week I was just one point away from 3-1. Sigh. However, we're getting better and better, which means these are all perfect picks (odds via BetMGM):

  • No. 5 Georgia (+3.5) at No. 1 Texas
The first real test for the Longhorns. I still think Texas wins, but by a field goal or less. And I'm assuming this will be a low score.
  • Rutgers (-6.5) vs. UCLA
The Bruins' terrible travel schedule this year and noon ET start time convinced me to make it big here with the Scarlet Knights. Smash it.

NFL

  • Chiefs at 49ers UNDER 47.5
I love it. San Francisco is in slump and Kansas City is averaging 23 points per game. I think this one ends 23-13.
  • Bengals (-5.5) at Browns
Consider me a Cincy supporter, but this is also about the demise of Cleveland. How bad will Deshaun Watson be?
