The first US exit poll is here: women voted more often than in 2024

The first exit poll from Edison Research is out and focuses on voter demographics:

  • 53% of voters are women, up from 52% in 2020
  • 71% white, up from 67% in 2020
  • 57% do not have a college degree, up from 59% in 2020
  • 45% said their personal finances were worse than four years ago, up from 20% in 2020
  • 31% said the economy was most important to their vote, 11% immigration, 14% abortion, 35% democracy and 4% foreign policy
  • 44% view Trump favorably, up from 46% in 2020
  • 48% view Harris favorably over Biden, up from 52% in 2020
  • A poll in Pennsylvania shows 46% view Trump favorably, up from 48% in 2020
  • Pennsylvania: In 2020, 46% viewed Harris favorably versus 50% Biden

There are lots of numbers here and you can rotate them in either direction. I haven't seen any significant market reaction. If I had to lean forward, these numbers would help Trump this time, especially the ones in Pennsylvania.

Preliminary poll results in Wisconsin:

  • 47% of voters view Harris favorably, compared to 50% of Biden in the 2020 election poll
  • 44% of voters view Trump favorably, compared to 43% in the 2020 election poll
  • 84% of voters were white versus 86% in the 2020 exit poll, 6% were Black versus 6% in 2020, 5% were Hispanic versus 4% in 2020

Preliminary Nevada exit poll results:

  • 44% of voters view Harris favorably, compared to Biden's 52% in the 2020 election poll
  • 47% of voters view Trump favorably, compared to 48% in the 2020 election poll
  • 66% of voters were white versus 65% in the 2020 exit poll, 8% were Black versus 7% in 2020, 17% were Hispanic versus 17% in 2020

Preliminary Michigan exit poll results:

  • 48% of voters view Harris favorably, compared to Biden's 51% in the 2020 election poll
  • 45% of voters view Trump favorably, compared to 45% in the 2020 election poll
  • 79% of voters were white versus 81% in the 2020 exit poll, 11% were Black versus 12% in 2020, 6% were Hispanic versus 3% in 2020

Preliminary Georgia exit poll results:

  • 49% of voters view Harris favorably, compared to Biden's 50% in the 2020 election poll
  • 46% of voters view Trump favorably, compared to 46% in the 2020 election poll
  • 57% of voters were white versus 61% in the 2020 exit poll, 30% were Black versus 29% in 2020, 8% were Hispanic versus 7% in 2020

Preliminary North Carolina exit poll results:

  • 48% of voters view Harris favorably, compared to Biden's 50% in the 2020 election poll
  • 43% of voters view Trump favorably, compared to 47% in the 2020 election poll
  • 69% of voters were white versus 65% in the 2020 exit poll, 19% were Black versus 23% in 2020, 8% were Hispanic versus 5% in 2020
