The Eagles' schedule changes after NFC East rival takes their national TV slot

Many Eagles games over the past two seasons have been in either prime time or late afternoon, with the league attempting to highlight the team's players, particularly on offense. However, one of the team's upcoming games will be moved from the late afternoon window and played earlier.

The NFL announced Tuesday that the Oct. 27 game against the Cincinnati Bengals has been moved from 4:25 p.m. to 1 p.m. The Chicago Bears will now visit the Washington Commanders in the 4:25 p.m. slot.

Before the season began, the game between the Eagles and Bengals seemed to be one of the most anticipated of the season, especially given the potential matchup between Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow and four premier wide receivers – AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith of the Eagles, and Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins of the Bengals – a duel that could have turned out like a shootout ensued. However, the Bengals currently have a record of 2-4 after defeating the Giants last Monday night, while the Eagles have a record of 3-2.

There's no immediate explanation for the change, but comparing both games, the Bears-Commanders matchup pits two competitive teams with the first two picks in this year's draft – Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels – who are their First meaningful NFL game against each other. Both teams currently have a record of 4-2, with the Commanders leading the NFC East and the Bears trailing the Minnesota Vikings 5-0 in the middle of the NFC North race.

The game also includes the third and eighth largest television markets (Chicago is third, Washington is ninth). While the Philadelphia metropolitan area is the fifth-largest television market, Cincinnati ranks 37th.
