The dry and sunny weather will continue

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning!

NEXT 24 HOURS: We will start the work week with plenty of sunshine, with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Winds of 5 to 10 mph are forecast to be east-northeast. You'll probably need the jacket in the morning, but not in the afternoon.

The dry weather continues this week: We see no sign of rain in our forecast for the next seven days. High pressure will continue and keep us mostly sunny and dry.

Temperatures next week will likely be five to eight degrees above average, with highs in the lower 80s. Nighttime lows will also trend warmer, with temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s. We will see cool mornings followed by warm and sunny afternoons.

Long-range models suggest a weak cold front could move into the state on Thursday, but we still see no sign of rain.

We may end October without any measurable precipitation. For Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Anniston, it could be one of the driest Octobers on record.

We need the rain as the drought continues to stretch across the state. Central and northern Alabama will remain unusually dry to moderately dry. The latest drought monitor comes out at 9 a.m. Thursday and it wouldn't surprise me to see drought conditions intensify.

Trope update: Although Nadine disintegrated over Mexico, Hurricane Oscar made landfall in Cuba on Sunday. The system is likely to weaken as it moves further over land, but Oscar Heavy rain and flooding could still occur in Cuba and the Bahamas through midweek.

The good news is that it will not impact us and is unlikely to spread to the Gulf.

The rest of the Atlantic remains calm. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30th.
