“The Diplomat” Season 2, World Series and other new TV series

The messy dynamics between wife and ex-husband are almost as complicated as the international quagmire they find themselves in in jolly old England. This season, when the English government suspects a Russian submarine of a deadly bombing attack on one of His Majesty's battleships, the path to the truth leads to the British Prime Minister. Russell's ambassador is on the case, but the arrival of the scandal-scarred US Vice President (a brilliantly deployed Allison Janney) complicates the heroine's mission and could torpedo her personal ambitions.

1. The 2024 World Series The duel between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees continues this week. There are plenty of high-priced players, including iconic Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani and Yankees clutch player Juan Soto. The latter secured victory in the final playoff game against the Cleveland Guardians with his three-run home run with two outs in the 10th inning. The Dodgers and Yankees will meet in the series for the first time in 43 years. Game 3 begins tonight at 8:08 p.m. on Fox at Yankee Stadium, followed by Game 4 on Tuesday at the same time on Fox. Games 5, 6 and 7 are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday if necessary.

2. Martha! Martha! Martha! On Wednesday the Netflix documentary “Martha” about the housewife superstar and ex-convict Martha Stewart, premiere. Earlier this month, the biopic was the opening film at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The 83-year-old entrepreneur, who is worth $550 million according to Forbes, opens up in RJ Cutler's honest documentary, told in her own words. Of her stay in a minimum-security prison in West Virginia, Stewart says, “Those prosecutors should have been put in a Cuisinart and put on overdrive.” Among the revelations? Even her ex-husband, publisher Andrew Stewart, was surprised to learn (according to the New York Post) that the domestic diva had cheated on him during her marriage with another man. We like our documentaries juicy, like Martha enjoys her fried chicken.

Andy (Sydney Mikayla), the young woman in the title, rejects her parents' desire to become an accountant. Instead, she's on a mission to become the greatest wrestler in a world where wrestling is everything. Actor Keith David narrates the American action comedy in 30-minute episodes.

5. Executive producer Salma Hayek had a hunch. Mexican novelist and screenwriter Laura Esquivel's 1989 Latin American international bestseller had more to offer: “Like water for chocolate” as occurred in the 1992 Alfonso Arau film. Hayek takes a more expansive approach in HBO's six-part Latino adaptation of Esquivel's troubled love story set against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution. The premiere begins on Sunday at 8 p.m. and will be streamed on Max. With a touch of magical realism and a love for the healing power of cooking, the Spanish-language adaptation brings together Pedro and Tita, whose young love melts away when Tita's strong-willed mother betroths Pedro to her sister Rosaura. Hit!
