John Wick Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have revealed that Eva Longoria committed $6 million in funding less than 24 hours before filming began, effectively saving the project from cancellation.

In an interview on the film's tenth anniversary, Stahelski and Leitch spoke about it Desperate housewives Star investment to complete the lost financing.

“We were out for less than a week and lost almost $6 million due to gap funding,” Stahelski said Business Insider. “We funded independently to get the bond, but one of the investors couldn’t raise the money in time.”

Stahelski and Leitch, as well as lead actor Keanu Reeves, have already raised their own money, while producer Basil Iwanyk has maxed out his personal credit cards to finance the film, he said.

Then Creative Artists Agency, which helped the filmmakers raise the money, offered some of their actors an investment opportunity, which Longoria took up.

“Me, Keanu and Dave had put it off, Basil had maxed out his three credit cards, we had all put everything into it, including Keanu. And we were still close. So we were closed,” Stahelski said.

Then Longoria “came to the rescue and provided the gap funding.”

“We didn't know anything about it. Basil didn't tell Keanu or us about it. Literally less than 24 hours before we had to lock the doors of the movie and walk away, Basil said, “We've got the investor, we've closed the gap.” We found out at the end of the movie, Basil invited us to dinner, and we laughed at all the nonsense that had happened and he said, “By the way, funny story, do you know who Gap funded you?” Eva Longoria.” We thought, 'What!'”

The directors eventually took Longoria to lunch at Chateau Marmont to thank her for the savings John Wick.

“During awards season last year, I met her twice at academy events and we reminisced. She said, 'Wow, that was the best money I've ever spent.' It definitely paid off for her,” Leitch said.

Longoria's production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, now Hyphenate Media Group, was co-founded in 2005 John Wick as his first major credit as a producer. The company then produced television series Ready for love, TelenovelaAnd Grand hotel.
