The Cowboys' loss to the Lions is a real shock for Dallas

ARLINGTON, Texas – Home, cursed home.

That flow — or curse, trend, nightmare, embarrassment — continued for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday with another loss at Jerry World.

Not to mention it was Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' birthday. The Detroit Lions blew out the candles before halftime.

The 47:9 result was anything but a laugh for the Lions. Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit's star defender, was dragged away in the third quarter with his left leg immobilized by a cast.

But before and after Hutchinson suffered his horrific injury, the pattern was in full swing as the Lions became the last visitors to face Dallas at AT&T Stadium. Dating back to last season's NFC playoffs, the Cowboys have lost four straight games on their own turf – with the home team conceding a total of 167 points in the losses.

Worse, they hardly put up any resistance.

In Week 3, they trailed the Baltimore Ravens 28-6, but the recovery was dashed by a 28-25 setback punctuated by the Dallas defense's 274 rushing yards.

They lost 44-19 in Week 2, with the New Orleans Saints scoring touchdowns on their first six drives.

In the first round of the NFC playoffs in January, the Green Bay Packers scored touchdowns on five straight possessions to pave the way to a 48-32 score.

On Sunday? The Cowboys (3-3) failed to score a touchdown. And that weakened defense — without key starters Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence and DaRond Bland — was torn apart for 492 yards in a tough setback.

Funny, but the Lions (4-1) were the last team the Cowboys beat at Jerry World. And that one ended in controversy, as the Lions had a supposed touchdown nullified by a technicality involving Dan Skipper for making a legitimate play.

Well, that was then. This is now.

The Lions returned the favor as Jared Goff passed for 315 yards and 3 touchdowns, David Montgomery passed for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns, and safety Brian Branch picked up two interceptions from Dak Prescott.

Still, there is good news for the Cowboys: They won't lose next week.

The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7. After that, they won't play at home again until Week 10.
