The cold front moving through Florida brings nice weather and keeps new storms at bay

The cold front sweeping across Florida and the Gulf Coast isn't just cooling the air; It deflects possible new storms.

The National Hurricane Center has once again reduced the likelihood that the disturbance in the Atlantic could develop into a tropical depression or storm in the foreseeable future. As of Friday morning, the chance of formation for the next two to seven days was 10%.

While forecasters said development is “not expected,” the system could bring some rain as it moves quickly west across the Caribbean this weekend.

The other disturbance the hurricane center is watching has a much greater chance of strengthening – 50% in the next two or seven days. However, you will probably stay away from the northern Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico.

“A short-lived tropical depression or storm could form before the system moves inland over Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico on Saturday,” forecasters said. “Regardless of developments, locally heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Central America and southern Mexico through the weekend.”

The next name on the list is Nadine.
