BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –We will publish The every week during the 2024 season Chris Hatcher Show. The show this week was hosted by Blake Gardner and featured the head football coach Chris Hatcherwill look back on last week's football game and look forward to the competition ahead.

Last week, the Bulldogs traveled to Johnson City, Tennessee to take on the ETSU Bucs. Samford led for most of the game before ultimately falling 31-28.

This week the Bulldogs return home to host the seventh-ranked Mercer Bears. Samford is currently 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference play, while Mercer is 6-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Samford and Mercer will meet for the 31st time, with Samford holding a 15-14-1 lead in the series. Last season, Mercer defeated Samford 28-21 in Macon, Georgia. The last time the teams met in Samford, the Bulldogs earned a dramatic 50-44 double overtime win over the Bears. Quincy Crittendon scored the game-winning touchdown in the second overtime to help Samford win. The Samford victory gave the Bulldogs their first outright Southern Conference title since joining the league in 2008.
