Terence Crawford turned down crossover fight with Conor McGregor: 'Sometimes it's not about the money'

Terence Crawford is not interested in a crossover fight with Conor McGregor.

Last week, former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor addressed a number of topics from the combat sports world during a livestream event with Duelbits, including his thoughts on other UFC champions and his all-time GOAT list. But another topic McGregor addressed was his potential return to the boxing ring, suggesting there was talk of two crossover fights between him and Crawford sponsored by Turki Alalshikh and the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia .

“Crawford is very skilled,” McGregor said. “He also has a wrestling pedigree. You know they always talk to me about belts. I have already boxed a boxer. You want a boxer to fight MMA with me. I am the highest-grossing (star).

“So we talk back and forth, it’s like a two-fight deal. He calls Crawford in front of me. I said, “Crawford, what you're talking to me about is you and me, a two-fight deal, first MMA, then boxing.” I know you have an extensive background and balls the size of a Bengal tiger. They demand a fight. Hundreds of millions will be at stake. What's up?' And he says, ‘I don’t want to get kicked.’ So you have to respect that.”

And apparently that actually happened, just like McGregor said.

On Tuesday, Crawford spoke to Bernie Tha Boxer, where he addressed McGregor's claims, backed up “Notorious's” statement and confirmed that he has no interest in stepping in the cage with the former UFC champion.

“I told Conor, I said hell no!” said Crawford. “They called me and offered me the fight. Me and Conor got on the phone and we started playing politics and trying to figure something out and I just told him, “I'm not putting myself in a fucking octagon with you for you to kick me and elbow me.” “You can attack and stuff.” '

“He started laughing and said, ‘Man, I respect that because you respect my sport just like I respect your sport. You understand that you will be at a disadvantage if you come into the octagon with me. Just like if I get into a boxing ring with you, I'm at a disadvantage. But we would make a lot of money!' I said, yeah, sometimes it's not about the money. I can make money, but you're not going to kick me out, dude. These kicks and elbows, they’re no joke.”

Crawford is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world and one of only three men to hold undisputed titles in two weight classes in the four-belt era. Most recently, Crawford moved up in weight again and won the WBA and WBO interim light middleweight titles with a victory over Israil Madrimov in August.
