Temporary road closures announced for Magic City Classic events

The City of Birmingham announced temporary road closures for the 83rd annual Magic City Classic weekend.

The city said the Department of Transportation will temporarily close certain streets as activity occurs throughout the city.

The following road adjustments took place on Wednesday, October 23rd.

  • The outside eastbound lane of Graymont Avenue was closed.
  • The bike racks at the Legion Field bus stop have been installed.
  • Concrete barricades were laid to block the Graymont Ave. leading streets from 3rd St. West to 6th St. West.
  • Concrete barricades were laid to block streets leading to 8th Ave. West, from 3rd Ave W to 7th Ave. to block West.

The city said the remaining planned road closures are:

Thursday, Oct. 24th

5:00 p.m. – Short 20th in front of City Hall ends at 5:00 p.m

Saturday, October 26th

  • 2 a.m. – Streets that are part of the Magic City Classic parade route begin closing, including Park Place.
  • 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. – Graymont Avenue will be closed from Arkadelphia to Center Street once all parking spaces at Legion Field are full.
  • 4:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. – Birmingham Department of Transportation barricades are set up for the transportation lane and parade.
  • 8 a.m. – 8th Ave. West closes from Arkadelphia to Center Street. No one tailgating is allowed to enter after 8 a.m
  • 8 a.m. – The parade begins.
  • 9 a.m. – The Birmingham CrossPlex game day shuttle route begins.
  • 12:00 p.m. – Shuttle routes to Boutwell Auditorium and Philips Academy begin.
  • 2:30 p.m. – Game kick-off.
  • 10:00 p.m. – Shuttle routes end.

Sunday, October 27th

8 a.m. – All street barricades are removed.
