“Tell Me Lies” Finale: THAT wasn’t the original ending

LOS ANGELES – WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON FINALE OF “TELL ME LIES”

Are you still processing the Season 2 finale of Tell Me Lies? Yes, we feel that.

“Some really close people that you spend a lot of time with in front of the TV will let you down,” Jackson White teased when On The Red Carpet caught up with him along with his ex-wife and real-life love, Grace Van Patten.

He wasn't wrong.

If you haven't seen the season finale yet, take Thomas Doherty's advice before starting the episode.

“Drink a cup of chamomile tea. And make sure you have another hour or two free, go into a dark room and just process what’s happening,” he joked. “Meditate a little. Meditate a lot!”

If you have watched it, we are here to reveal everything along with the cast and executives.

In the first few minutes, Lucy and Stephen are intimate, both in the 2015 wedding ceremony scenes and in the college scenes. We get back to college and after Stephen thinks he has Lucy where he wants her, she goes to Leo to apologize, they get back together and are intimate too.

Stephen tells Diana that it's over between them. As Stephen leaves, she sits down and sighs. Relief? Most likely. Later in the episode, we see her advisor telling her that she had a great essay, a great LSAT score, and has a good chance of getting into Yale early (the exact opposite of what she led Stephen to believe). When her father picks her up for the holidays, he asks Stephen how he felt about the breakup, and she replies, “You know, Stephen had to think it was his idea.” So the master manipulator was manipulated by Diana!

Stephen sees Lucy and Leo cuddling at a party, he confronts her and tells Leo that they were together that morning. An angry Leo hits Stephen, who doesn't fight back. At the end of the scene, we see a small smile on Stephen's bloodied face. He knows that he can manipulate Lucy with this.

Bree and Oliver meet and he ends their relationship. Later she goes to his house to talk to him and they end up in bed. Oliver goes to take a shower and Marianne comes home. Oliver admits to Bree that they have an open marriage and that Marianne knew about their affair all along.

Catherine Missal, who plays Bree, said she was shocked by the twist in her story.

“Seeing this kind of manipulation through Bree’s eyes was really sad. It's really heartbreaking and I feel so much for her. And I love her and just want the best for her,” she said.

Tom Ellis, who plays Oliver, agreed and said it was a very special experience watching the film again.

“I have to say it was a pretty tough film because I had to find a way to make Oliver forgivable so I could play him. But I realize it is completely unforgivable,” Ellis said.

Drew and Wrigley get back together and go partying. But things spiral out of control and Drew ends up dying of an accidental overdose. Spencer House, who plays Wrigley, said those days on set were particularly hard.

“It kills you, I mean you fall asleep as soon as you get home,” House said. “I love working with Ben (Wadsworth, who plays Drew) and we haven't seen much of him. And when he showed up, I was just happy to be on set with him. So it was… It's fun to work with him, but it's also really tiring scenes.”

Stephen, Bree, Pippa, Lucy and Evan all go to the hospital to be with Wrigley. Lucy feels guilty about writing the letter about Drew's knowledge of Macy's car accident and wants to confess it to Wrigley. Stephen enters and tells Wrigley it was him, taking Lucy's trouble because, as he later tells her, he loves her.

Speaking of confessions, Evan confesses to Stephen that he cheated on Bree with Lucy last year. Stephen leaves the room to process what he just heard and sees Lydia, who is there to pack her brother's things for the semester. She tells Stephen that Lucy has told her so much about him, but at this point she doesn't believe anything Lucy says. The lightbulb goes on in Stephen's head again. Is this how his relationship with Lydia begins?

Stephen goes back into the room and records Evan repeating that he cheated on Bree with Lucy. Stephen says he forgives him and Evan says, “You're not going to tell Bree and ruin my life?” Stephen says no, “Not today.”

When Lucy returns to the 2015 storyline on Bree and Evans' wedding day, she looks for Stephen in the church but cannot find him. Wrigley says he can't reach him. Diana says: “It's kind of scary when you don't know where he is.”

Lucy checks on Bree, who just got a text from Stephen. It's the voice recording of Evan admitting that he slept with Lucy. And this is how season 2 ends!

Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer revealed that this wasn't supposed to happen.

“That wasn’t the original ending and I literally changed it on set. A few days before, I was writing in my chair on set, just because I realized that Stephen will always be in the getaway car when he drops a bombshell. And in the original ending, he was still at the wedding and I said, 'No, he's already 100 miles away and he's leaving this with them,'” Oppenheimer told On The Red Carpet.

The Season 2 finale left fans with even more questions, questions that will hopefully be answered in a third season.

“I feel like if we're so lucky to have a third season, we need to get more people involved. We need to make things more complex. We have to make it shine!” said executive producer Emma Roberts.

Oppenheimer said the ideas are already circulating.

“I can't give anything away, but I think there has to be some justice. I think there has to be some revenge.”

Hopefully another season will be greenlit soon. In the meantime, you can watch both seasons of Tell Me Lies on Hulu now.
