PHOENIX – A male juvenile was arrested following a threatening incident at a high school dance over the weekend, according to Phoenix police.

In a statement released Oct. 21, police say the incident occurred on Oct. 19 when officers were called to a high school in the area of ​​59th Avenue and Baseline Road.

“The caller, who was on her way to school, told the 911 dispatcher that she had learned from her daughter that several male students had displayed weapons during a school dance on campus,” part of the statement read.

When officers arrived, witnesses initially alerted them to two male teenagers who were outside the dance. “The two men were arrested by officers. It was quickly determined that they had no weapons,” part of the statement read.

According to police, officers later received information from school staff about another youth who had a weapon at the dance and was threatening students. When officers found the teen and attempted to arrest him, the teen became “combative and unruly” toward officers.

“The fight continued and resulted in one officer deploying a Taser. One officer was injured during the fight but did not require hospitalization,” reads part of the Phoenix Police Department’s statement on the matter.

Police said they found a pencil wrapped in cloth and a comb in the teen's pockets when he was arrested. The juvenile was referred to the juvenile justice center after being medically cleared. He is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
