Swimmer Luana Alonso follows Olympic drama with launch of subscription-only content

Luana Alonso retired from the swimming pool in the summer after an interesting time at the Paris Olympics. Last week she announced that she had transferred her talents to OnlyFans.

The 20-year-old former SMU swimmer represented Team Paraguay but failed to qualify for the women's 100m butterfly semifinals and promptly ended her career. She was then accused by the Paraguayan Olympic Committee of “creating an inappropriate atmosphere” and asked to leave the Olympic Village.

That was in August, and aside from the claim that a famous athlete once slid into her DMs, things have been relatively quiet since then about Luana, who has more than a million Instagram followers.

Until the internet took notice of some sort of announcement she made on Twitter, where she has another 100,000+ followers. It was simply a link to their new business venture, selling content behind a paywall.

Luana’s bio on OnlyFans reads: “Your favorite ex-swimmer. Promise me you won't regret this.” She then added a promise about what you can expect from your $35 a month in her pinned post from earlier this month: “Welcome to my page! We’re going to have a lot of fun together (on the news).”

Luana Alonso is turning her Olympic talents to content after retiring from swimming

So much for a quiet retirement. Let's be honest: It was never in Luana Alonso's plans to quietly retire and never be heard from again.

She has built a large fan base and used her last Olympic run to grow that fan base. It's made some headlines, and now we're at the point where it's time to start producing content for paying customers.

One could argue that an immediate jump from the pool into content would have tested the subscription-based platform's abilities to handle the transaction load, but better late than never.

I'm just glad to hear that the platform still has good utility and isn't completely falling into the dark side. This husband who wasted $135,000 on content and his marriage ended in divorce amazed me.

Leave it to a retired swimmer showcasing her Olympic talents behind a paywall to bring me back. There are still lives being changed for the better through content.
